SPORT: ROCHE MISSES OUT ON GOAL OF THE YEAR
Stephanie Roche missed out on winning the FIFA Award for goal of the year last night.
The Ireland striker made the final three-person short-list after her stunning effort for Peamont United against Wexford Youths in late 2013, but she lost-out in the on-line poll to Colombia’s James Rodriguez.
The Real Madrid star claimed 42% of the votes, with Roche having to settle for second place with 33%. Robin van Persie, came in third with 11%.
Meanwhile for the third time in his career, Cristiano Ronaldo is the world player of the year.
He won the 2014 Ballon d’Or last night, retaining his title from the year before.
