Three Men Charged With IRA Membership In Cork

Three men from Cork have been charged with membership of the IRA.

The men appeared before the Special Criminal Court in Dublin this morning.

50 year old Sean Walsh of St John’s Well in Fairhill, Co. Cork and 36 year old Joseph Walsh of Glengarrif Road, Fairhill, Co. Cork were both charged, with membership of an unlawful organisation, before the Special Criminal Court this morning.

46 year old Michael Gilmartin of Chestnut Drive, Cluin Ard, Newtown, Cobh, Co. Cork, was charged with membership of the IRA.

Mr. Gilmartin was also charged with possession of 2 firearms – a semi-automatic pistol and a sawn-off shotgun – along with 11 rounds of ammunition and 11 shotgun cartridges.

The men stood up one by one, and confirmed their identification, before their individual charges were read aloud before the court of three judges.

The three men were remanded in custody to appear again before the Special Criminal Court on Wednesday the 21st of December.
