WEATHER BATTERS THE COUNTRY – AGAIN

Met Eireann issued an Orange weather alert, as gusts of up to 130 kilometres per hour battered the country.

It’s less than 3 weeks since storm Christine caused millions of euro worth of damage to coastal counties – and now once again households and businesses have come under attack from mother nature.

Extremely hide tides – of up to 13 metres, heavy rain and strong winds have caused extensive flooding in many areas – with Galway and Clare worst affected.

5,000 homes were without power this morning – as gusts of up to 130 kilometres per hour and thundery downpours batter the country.

Clare has been worst affected and ESB crews are working to repair lines as quickly as possible.

A number of flights and ferry sailings have also been cancelled because of the storms. Intending passengers are being asked to check websites before travelling.

And motorists are being advised to drive with exteme care – as fallen trees, debris and flooding – have made driving conditions treacherous.
