Wexford Women’s Refuge Face Difficulties Finding Long Term Accommodation

WEXFORD WOMEN’S REFUGE FACE DIFFICULTIES FINDING LONG TERM ACCOMMODATION

The Wexford Women’s Refuge says the housing crisis means that it’s becoming more difficult to find long term accommodation for the women they’ve supported.

The centre’s Molly Kirwan says 21 women and 23 children, who were seeking a safe place to stay, have been housed at the refuge since January.

She says that the service is continuing to work well after it was forced to temporarily close last year because of issues with their budget.

However, Molly Kirwan told South East Radio’s Morning Mix there’s always a demand for the service – with 164 women seeking accommodation since the start of the year.

She says as properties to rent become scarce it becomes harder to house women in long term accommodation as they leave the refuge.
