SOUTH EAST ONE OF LOWEST AREAS FOR DISPOSABLE INCOME

Dublin and the Midwest have the most in the way of disposable income while the South East comes near the bottom of the table.

Dublin also accounted for 42 per-cent of the State’s total gross domestic product of 173 billion euro in 2012.

That’s according to the latest figures released by the Central Statistics Office.

The CSO defines “disposable income” as a person’s total income, minus taxes and social insurance contributions.

When broken into eight different regions, the Dublin area remained the highest at 22-thousand euro, while the Midwest came in at second and was the only other region to climb above the national disposable income average, with 19,701 euro per person.

The South East had the third lowest average disposable income of the 8 regions at just over 18-thousand Euro with only the Midlands and the Border regions worse off.
