Meeting On Rural Wexford Post Offices’ Future Tonight

MEETING ON RURAL WEXFORD POST OFFICES’ FUTURE TONIGHT

As a meeting on the future of rural post offices in County Wexford gets underway in Ballinaboola tonight – there are calls for some kind of rolling investment to be made in the network.

That’s according to Neil Hughes of Hughes Blake Accountancy firm in Enniscorthy and Dublin.

It follows the possible closure of hundreds of rural post offices as a result of the government encouraging people to receive their social welfare payment electronically into their bank account.

That’s despite post offices relying heavily on the social welfare contract in order to remain viable.

Neil Hughes says everything must be done to save the network in rural areas.

He says new services need to be introduced into post offices to produce ways of making money for the network in order to protect the social service they provide.
