FLANAGAN SAYS THERE ARE FILES ON JIHADIS IN IRELAND

The Foreign Affairs Minister Charlie Flanagan has confirmed files exist on suspected ‘jihadis’ in this country.

HE was speaking a day after attending a meeting of EU foreign ministers where recent terror developments, including the deadly attack in Tunisia were discussed.

It coincided with a suicide bombing in Turkey, near the Syrian border which killed 30 people.

Minister Flanagan says files have been compiled on people, and he works with his cabinet colleagues to stay up to date on the issue.

“Oh there are – I keep in very close contact with my colleague the Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald, who obviously has the security and intelligence mandate”.

“We have strengthened our own legislation here before Christmas to introduce new terror charges” he added.
