Ancient East Tourism Trail Unveiled

ANCIENT EAST TOURISM TRAIL UNVEILED

County Wexford attractions, the Dunbrody Famine Ship and Hook Head Lighthouse, have been included in a new tourism initiative for the South and East of the country.

Failte Ireland’s launched what it calls ‘Ireland’s Ancient East’ to encourage more tourism throughout Leinster and Munster.

There’s been some criticism that the route will only include certain parts of county Wexford.

However Visit Wexford’s Bettie-Marie Burger Smit says not everywhere was going to be included.

She says when the Wild Atlantic Way was rolled out three years ago it was just a thought process, a route, it was somebody that went and called it the Wild Atlantic Way and connected dots.

Bettie-Marie Burger Smit says it was hit and miss for the first year because people had to realise they were not going to do everything for everybody and it was how people engaged with the route.
