DONOHOE CONFIDENT OF FULL SUPPORT OF AER LINGUS SALE

The transport minister says he expects all government TDs to vote in favour of the sale of Aer Lingus.

A two-day Dáil debate is underway after the Cabinet last night agreed to sell the State’s 25 percent shareholding.

IAG has offered 335 million euro for the stake, and has made new guarantees about the Heathrow landing slots and the future of routes from Irish airports.

50 jobs will be lost as part of the deal, but IAG has promised that over 600 new positions will be created by 2020.

Minister Paschal Donohoe says he is expecting full support from government deputies, as their concerns have been addressed.

“I am confident that we will receive the support of all government TDs in relation to this – both Labour and Fine Gael TDs have raised a huge variety of different matters with me, and I have worked intensively on those matter during the negotiation” he said.

“And I will be working very hard in the coming day, and days, to demonstrate how the agreement has met the concerns that have been outlined to me” he added.
