E.S.B. SAYS ALL CUSTOMERS SHOULD NOW HAVE ELECTRICITY SUPPLY BACK

Most homes around County Wexford that suffered electricity outages due to last night’s lightning storm have now been re-connected, the company says.

Around five thousand power customers lost their supply overnight, with major disruptions in and around Castlebridge, Fethard, Duncannon and Killinick.

Emergency repair crews worked on the problems overnight and all day today and gradually that number was whittled down.

The ESB says the last remaining major outage area, due to a lightning strike on a substation in Castlebridge, has now been repaired and all customers should now have power.

Power outages are still affecting some areas around the rest of the country, with 3 thousand 500 homes and businesses without electricity.

West Cork is worst affected, particularly around Bandon.

There are major outages also in Donegal, Galway and near Castlebar in County Mayo.

The ESB says it’s hoped all supplies will be restored by this evening.
