FIRST SOLAR ENERGY PARK IN IRELAND GRANTED PLANNING PERMISSION IN CO. WEXFORD
Planning permission has been granted for the country’s first Solar Energy Park.
It is to be situated in the heart of rural Wexford in the parish of Ballycullane.
The development on a twenty six acre site has been given the go ahead by Wexford County Council after a planning application was submitted last May.
Wexford Solar Energy plans to generate electricity from the site by placing thousands of solar panels on it and using the power of the sun to supply electrical current into the national grid.
The park at Coolroe, Ballycullane is the first of it’s kind in the country and has led some local residents to express concern about the black glass solar panels near their homes.
Behind the project is windfarm owner Patrick Blunt, electrical engineer Niall McCoy and landowner Sarah O’Flaherty.
The development is for a maximum export of 5 megawatts of electricity with control buildings on the site.
