GREECE PLEDGES TROIKA ‘A THING OF THE PAST’ AFTER LEFT ELECTION VICTORY

The anti-austerity Syriza party will open talks to lead the next Greek government after falling just two seats short of an overall majority.

Party leader Alexis Tsipras says the Greek people have “made history” and “will make the Troika a thing of the past”.

The result could put Greece on a collision course with the EU over the terms of its bailout agreement.

Reporter George Hatzadakus is in Athens. He says Syriza will immediately look for talks on a massive write-down on Greece’s debt.

“They will strongly insist on a renegotiation of the debt, with at least 50 percent of the debt being written off” he said.

“That is what they campaigned on, that is what a lot of people who voted for Syriza voted for”.

“We’ve got a Eurogroup meeting today – we’ll have first indications there” he added.
