HEAD OF PAC SAYS IT WILL DEFEND ITSELF AGAINST KERINS ACTION

The head of the PAC says the Committee will defend itself against Angela Kerins legal action because its members were simply “doing their job”.

The former Rehab CEO is seeking an injunction against the Committee to prevent her being called before it again, or having details of her pay and pension arrangements discussed by its members.

Angela Kerins’ legal team says the PAC engaged in a “witch-hunt” when she appeared before it last February causing her to suffer illness and lose her job.

PAC Chair John McGuinness says the Committee will launch a “robust defence”. He says they did not overstep the mark in questioning Kerins.

“I don’t accept that, I don’t believe that it was” he said.

“Each deputy asked questions relative to their own interest, being that of providing the information, and getting it to satisfy themselves one way or another”.

“It was not done for the media, it was no done for a sound bite – it was done because that is the job of the Public Accounts Committee” he added.
