HOWLIN SAYS GOVERNMENT IN ‘SCOPING EXERCISE’ OVER BABY GRAVES

The government’s promised a comprehensive investigation into the deaths of children at Mother and Baby homes nationwide.

Public Expenditure and Reform minister Wexford’s Brendan Howlin told the Dail that several departments are involved in a ‘scoping exercise’ to determine the extent of any mass graves across the country.

The issue was raised by the opposition during Leaders’ Questions in the Dáil today.

Independent TD Catherine Murphy demanded to know why the site of the mass grave at a septic tank in Tuam in Galway had not been declared a crime scene.

She says had it been anywhere other than at the site of a church run organisation it would be declared a crime scene.
