HSE LOOKING AT CARE PACKAGES FOR SOME WHO LOST MEDICAL CARDS

The Minister for Primary Care says he cannot comment on plans for a possible ‘third tier’ of medical cards.

But Alex White says the HSE is looking into plans where anybody losing a medical card can still access the care they need.

The Minister for Health James Reilly has told his Fine Gael colleagues that a new form of medical card could be introduced.

Junior Minister White says he cannot comment on that – but has told the Dáil that nobody should lose the services they need:

“The Minister has asked the HSE and the HSE are looking at ways of exploring packages of integrated care – to ensure that people who have lost access to a medical card can still nevertheless have access to the services that they need” he said.

“That’s what happening in relation to it”.

“And as for reports in the media about third tier, second tier or other tiers – I really can’t speculate about that” he added.
