INCENTIVES NEEDED TO BRING VACANT HOMES BACK INTO USE – EXPERTS

Experts say the government should look at more incentives to bring vacant homes back into use rather than focusing on new builds.

It’s after Fianna Fáil suggested that developers should be given tax breaks to encourage more building.

A repair and lease scheme for vacant units introduced last year has only seen an uptake of seven out of a target of 800.

Architect Mel Reynolds says we need to focus on these because new builds are only a tiny portion of the market.
