MAN DIES IN WEXFORD HOUSE FIRE

A man in his late 70’s has died in a house fire in Rathnure.

He has been named as Pat Brennan – who lived in the townlsand of Grange.

The fire broke out shortly before 6 o’clock yesterday evening.

Two units of Enniscorthy Fire Brigade attended the scene after a neighbour raised the alarm.

But the blaze had gained a firm grip of the rural cottage at that stage.

Local businessman John Conran knew Pat Brennan well:

“Pat used to…come down to our pub, he used to walk down actually from, he lived up close to the mountain and he used to walk down every evening…about 6 o’clock in the evening he’d come in and he’d have a few drinks and a bit of a chat and he was a really likeable, a real gentleman” he said.

“I’ve never, in the time I know him, I never heard him say a bad word about anybody so he was a lovely person and it’s very sad to see the way he went in the end.” he added.
