MINISTER PROMISES THE ‘ROLLS ROYCE’ OF INTERNET FOR RURAL IRELAND

The Communications Minister is promising that rural Ireland will have “Rolls Royce” internet under a new broadband plan.

Pat Rabbitte has been briefing TDs on a plan to roll out fibre optic connections in areas that don’t already have them.

The plan will supersede proposals to increase the number of mobile phone masts available to offer mobile broadband.

The Minister says the new scheme will be fully future-proofed.

“We have re-thought and re-tweaked and responded to what has happened in the market in the last couple of years – and have decided that we ought to go for the Rolls Royce solution – which fibre-optic” he said.

“That is future-proofed, reliant, resilient, it is the future” he added.
