MORE THAN 200,000 EXPECTED TO ATTEND NATIONAL PLOUGHING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Thousands of people have arrived at the opening day of the 2014 National Ploughing Championships in Co Laois.

Over 200,000 thousand people are expected to attend the three day event – which is taking place at Ratheniska near Stradbally.

People travelling to the event are advised to allow plenty of time – and to adhere to the special plan in operation.

Anna Mae McHugh – the Managing Director of the National Ploughing Association – says the event is continuing to grow:

“The quality first of all of all the exhibits is wonderful, we’ve a very big number” she said.

“I would say that it’s much bigger – the whole layout is much bigger than last year – and we expect that there’ll be a huge attendance”.

“We had about 228,000 last year over the three days and I have a feeling that we’re going to exceed that” he added.
