A heartbroken Wexford woman whose twin sons tragically passed away shortly after birth has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise awareness of the CuddleCot device, which helps grieving parents cope with the loss of a child.
Kim O'Leary, 31, from Camolin, shared her emotional story in the Irish Independent of using the CuddleCot, a specialised cooling device that allows parents to spend additional time with their babies after death. Kim and her husband, Tommy, were devastated when their twin sons, Alfie and Archie, were born prematurely at just 20 weeks and three days and passed away just two hours later.
Kim has described the CuddleCot as “a godsend,” explaining how it gave her and her husband the time they needed to process their grief, make necessary arrangements and have some final memories with their sons. Kim also shared how the CuddleCot allowed her six-year-old son, Tommy Jr., to meet his brothers, something she said meant the world to the family.
Now, Kim is raising €5,000 to donate a CuddleCot to Wexford General Hospital, ensuring other families who face similar losses can also benefit from the device. The GoFundMe campaign has already raised over €1,400 and any additional funds raised will go to support Féileacáin, a charity that helps bereaved parents following the loss of a baby.
