Creagh College in Gorey, Wexford, has been awarded the prestigious Belong To LGBTQ+ Quality Mark, recognising its outstanding efforts in creating a safe, inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ students. The college received the award at a ceremony in Dun Laoghaire on 26 March 2026, as part of a national initiative that saw 39 post-primary schools and Youthreach centres across Ireland honoured for their commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion.
The accreditation highlights the school’s significant achievements over an 18-month period, including the implementation of LGBTQ+-inclusive anti-bullying policies, the establishment of LGBTQ+ and Allies clubs, and outreach to parents and the wider community. These efforts are part of a broader national movement to ensure that all students feel safe, valued, and supported, with a focus on long-term, sustainable practices that promote the wellbeing of LGBTQ+ youth.
Creagh College was one of 16 schools and centres to receive the Quality Mark for the first time, joining 23 schools that were reaccredited after achieving the mark in 2023. Belong To's new CEO, Kieran O’Donovan, praised the schools for their dedication, acknowledging the ongoing challenges but highlighting the progress made in creating more inclusive school cultures.
Amylee O'Brien, a teacher at Creagh College, expressed pride in the school's achievement, noting the importance of celebrating diversity and inclusion. Applications for the 2026/2027 LGBTQ+ Quality Mark initiative are now open to schools and Youthreach centres nationwide.
