The Government has opened applications for the On-Farm Badger Biosecurity Scheme, part of the Bovine TB Action Plan, to help farmers protect their herds from bovine tuberculosis (bTB). The scheme offers 40% grant aid for eligible purchases, up to €2,000 per farm, including fencing materials and water or feed troughs that prevent badger access.
Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon TD, said the scheme addresses one of the main ways bTB spreads—through infected badgers—and is part of a wider plan targeting cattle movement and residual infection in herds.
Applications are open until 31 May 2026, with approved farmers able to buy materials from participating co-ops and agri-retailers from 1 July to 31 August 2026.
Farmers can apply via the QR code sent in their post or by visiting www.bovinetb.ie for full terms and conditions.
