Emergency services responded to a large fire behind Rosslare Harbour's Garda station last night. The blaze broke out around 9 p.m. in a derelict, boarded-up house and quickly spread to about 75% of the building. Two fire units from Wexford Fire Station, along with a tanker, were dispatched to the scene, where they worked to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further.
Firefighters battled the flames defensively from the outside, as the property was abandoned. Crews remained on site until approximately 1:30 a.m. to ensure all hotspots were extinguished.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and no one was found inside the building.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer Darren Buchanan has confirmed that Garda forensic teams will assess the scene this morning to investigate further. Authorities have cordoned off the area and the investigation is ongoing.
