Independent Councillor Michael Sheehan has confirmed that the New Ross food bank will return for the upcoming May Bank Holiday weekend, providing vital support to individuals and families facing financial pressure.
The initiative will offer parcels filled with non-perishable essentials, aimed at easing the burden on those struggling with the rising cost of living. Access to the service is straightforward: those in need can register online, with all distributions handled confidentially and provided completely free of charge.
Speaking about the contents of the food parcels, Councillor Sheehan explained that each package is carefully assembled to deliver both quality and value. Items include well-known brand staples such as tea, coffee, and sugar, along with tins of peas, beans, and fruit. Breakfast cereals like cornflakes, Rice Krispies, and Weetabix are also included, alongside everyday essentials such as jam, marmalade, pasta, and pasta sauces.
Altogether, the parcels are designed to form a comprehensive grocery package. Councillor Sheehan noted that, based on current supermarket prices, the value of each food parcel ranges between €100 and €120. This level of support, he emphasized, can make a meaningful difference, whether for a young family trying to stretch their weekly budget or for someone living alone and finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet.
As economic pressures continue to affect households across the country, the return of the New Ross food bank comes as a timely and practical support for the local community.
