From Tiny Miracles to 25 Wexford’s Cassidy Quintuplets Celebrate Milestone Birthday

It’s hard to believe, but Wexford’s famous Cassidy quintuplets have reached another very special milestone – they’re 25!

Conor, Cian, Rory, Amy and Dearbhail Cassidy celebrated their quarter-century birthday on Sunday, August 16 – 25 years after their remarkable arrival made headlines across Ireland.

The five were born at Dublin’s Rotunda Hospital on August 16, 2001, at just over 25 weeks’ gestation, to Wexford parents Veronica and Kevin Cassidy.

Tiny at birth, each weighed between just 1lb 6oz and 1lb 11oz and spent the first weeks and months of their lives being cared for in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit before eventually making their way home to Bridgetown in County Wexford.

For Veronica and Kevin, those early days were the beginning of an extraordinary family journey – five babies, five toddlers, five schoolchildren and eventually, five very different young adults.

Over the years, people across Wexford have watched the Cassidys mark so many milestones – their first birthday, first days at school, teenage years and their 18th birthday, when the family returned to the Rotunda to meet some of the people who had cared for them as premature babies.

Now comes another one.

The babies Wexford remembers so well are 25 years old.

And while they may always be known affectionately as “the Cassidy quintuplets”, their mother Veronica has long stressed that Conor, Cian, Rory, Amy and Dearbhail are five very different individuals, each with their own personality, interests and ambitions.

For Veronica, looking back at photographs of five incredibly tiny babies and then looking at her five grown-up children today must make this birthday particularly poignant.

Twenty-five years, countless memories – and five very good reasons for the Cassidy family to celebrate.
