The HSE is encouraging people across Dublin and the South East to consider all available healthcare options ahead of the busy Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
Patients in Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Tipperary South, Waterford, Wicklow and Dublin South are being advised to look at services such as GPs, pharmacists, injury units and GP Out of Hours services as alternatives to Emergency Departments.
While all patients attending EDs will be treated, the HSE says those with non-urgent issues may face longer waiting times, as priority is given to the most serious cases.
Regional Clinical Lead Dr. Vida Hamilton says hospitals are expected to be particularly busy over the holiday period, and urged the public to choose the most appropriate care option where possible.
However, the HSE stresses that anyone in need of urgent or emergency care should not delay and should attend an Emergency Department or call 999 or 112.
