Revenue officers have seized contraband worth more than €580,000 in a series of operations across Ireland, with significant detections in Rosslare Europort and Co. Wexford.
A major alcohol seizure was carried out at Rosslare Europort, where almost 26,000 litres of beer, valued at over €103,000, were intercepted after arriving on a trailer from France. The haul represents a significant potential loss to the Exchequer.
In a separate operation in Co. Wexford, Revenue officers seized over 15,000 cigarettes following a search of a premises. The tobacco products were valued at more than €14,000, with further investigations also leading to the recovery of counterfeit goods and other illicit items.
Across the wider week-long operation, commencing 18 May 2026, Revenue officers made detections in Dublin, the Midlands, Wexford and Rosslare Europort. Seizures included herbal cannabis, illicit drugs, alcohol, tobacco products, counterfeit goods and suspected controlled medicines.
The operations were carried out using risk profiling and intelligence-led targeting, with assistance from detector dog Ciara. Goods originated from a range of countries including the US, UK, Romania, Greece, New Zealand, Spain, and Canada and were destined for addresses nationwide.
Revenue says investigations into all seizures are ongoing as part of continued efforts to target smuggling and shadow economy activity.
Members of the public with information on smuggling are being urged to contact Revenue in confidence.
