As we head into the May bank holiday weekend, Sergeant Michael Hall from the Divisional Policing Unit is urging everyone to drive safely. With road fatalities rising nationwide, the message this weekend is clear: obey the rules, stay alert and plan ahead.
Statistics reveal that speeding and not wearing seat belts are key factors in fatal accidents and with drug-related driving also on the rise, extra policing measures will be in place across Wexford this weekend.
Sergeant Hall confirmed that additional checkpoints and patrols, focusing on speeding, seat belts and impaired driving will be carried out.
Sergeant Hall also encouraged drivers to avoid distractions like mobile phones, urging them to leave their phones down while driving. He stressed that drug driving can remain detectable for days and that drivers should be cautious even the day after drinking alcohol.
The police operation, which began on Thursday, will continue through the weekend, with the goal of making Wexford's roads safer and ensuring everyone enjoys a safe, happy bank holiday.
