A significant water infrastructure project has commenced in Gorey, with Uisce Éireann beginning work to replace 3.4 kilometres of ageing water mains across the town.
The project aims to improve the reliability of water supplies, reduce leaks and bursts, and support future residential and commercial development in one of County Wexford's fastest-growing areas.
The existing network has experienced a number of leaks and bursts in recent years, resulting in supply interruptions and the loss of treated drinking water.
Welcoming the project, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne said the upgrades would have a positive impact on both residents and businesses.
He said the works would help ensure a more reliable water supply while also providing the infrastructure necessary to support future growth and development in Gorey.
The project will be delivered in four phases. Initial works are taking place at Ballyminaun Hill before moving to the R741 near the Amber Springs Hotel. Further phases will include Hollyfort Road, Pearsons Brook Road, Woodbury Road and Creagh Water Treatment Plant.
As part of the works, new service connections will also be installed from the public water main to customers' property boundaries.
Uisce Éireann says the upgrades will help reduce leakage and strengthen the local water network for years to come.
The works are being carried out by Shareridge Ltd. on behalf of Uisce Éireann and are expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
