Today marks the final day for members of the public to make submissions on a proposed large-scale solar farm development at Gusserane, just outside New Ross. Residents can submit their observations to Wexford County Council either in person before 5pm or online before midnight tonight. The deadline comes after a large community walk organised by the Gusserane Community Action Group drew more than 200 people to the area yesterday. Participants walked the proposed site while discussing concerns surrounding the project, including the potential loss of biodiversity, natural resources and valuable agricultural land in the New Ross area. Campaigners say the development could have a major impact on the local community and rural landscape. Speaking following the event, Independent New Ross Councillor Michael Sheehan said there has been a lack of communication and engagement around the project and encouraged local residents to make their views known before the deadline expires. The group also said there is growing concern over the absence of clear national regulations governing large-scale solar farm developments. Wexford County Council has previously adopted motions relating to solar farm policy, but campaigners say further direction is now needed from central government regarding future renewable energy developments and land use planning. The proposed development has generated significant local debate in recent weeks, with supporters highlighting renewable energy goals while opponents continue to raise concerns over land use, environmental impact and the scale of the project.
