On the afternoon of 27 April 2026, the Rosslare Harbour RNLI responded to a distress call from two sailors on a 24-foot yacht off Carnsore Point. At approximately 12:10pm, the Irish Coast Guard received the alert that the yacht's outboard motor had failed, leaving the vessel stranded.
The Rosslare Harbour All Weather Lifeboat launched at 12:18pm and, after reaching the scene about two miles northeast of the Fundale Buoy, the volunteer crew assessed the situation. A tow line was attached to the yacht, and the lifeboat safely towed it back to Rosslare Port. The vessel and crew arrived at 3pm, and the yacht crew began repairs on the motor.
Coxswain Keith Miller emphasized the importance of having reliable communication equipment and appropriate safety gear on board. The weather was clear with light winds, providing ideal conditions for the rescue. The RNLI crew’s quick response ensured a safe and successful service.
Crew Members Involved:
- Coxswain: Keith Miller
- Mechanic: Keith Morris
- Navigator: Anthony Kavanagh
- Crew: Paul McCormack, Aaron Kavanagh, David McCusker
This operation highlights the crucial role of volunteer lifeboat crews and the importance of preparation for safe sailing.
