Survey Launched to Assess Mental Health Services in Wexford

A new survey aimed at gathering public feedback on mental health services across County Wexford has been officially launched today.

The initiative, led by the Wexford Mental Health Services Working Group, was introduced by Chair Councillor AoifeRose O’Brien, alongside Chair of the Local Community Development Committee (LCDC), Councillor Frank Staples.

The survey is designed to collect insights from service users and their families on their experiences of mental health supports in the county. The findings will be used to inform ongoing efforts to advocate for improved services — with a particular focus on crisis care.

Speaking at the launch, Councillor O’Brien said the survey will play a key role in highlighting real-life experiences.

She noted there appears to be a disconnect between official information on service provision and what people are actually experiencing, adding that the survey will act as an important voice for those affected.

The survey will be available online through the Wexford County Council website in the “Latest News” section, with links also shared across social media platforms. Hard copies will be distributed through local libraries and municipal district offices.

According to Mental Health Ireland, an estimated 42% of people experience mental health issues at some point in their lives. Councillor O’Brien is encouraging as many people as possible to take part to help drive meaningful improvements.

The survey is supported by the LCDC, with Councillor Frank Staples saying he hopes those impacted — either directly or indirectly — will take the time to contribute, helping to build a clearer picture of service needs in the county.

The initiative comes as the Working Group continues to monitor plans for a proposed ten-bed community mental health unit in Wexford, previously identified as a priority under the Health Capital Plan 2026. The group says survey findings will help ensure the new facility meets the needs of those in crisis and the wider community.

Further details and access to the survey are available on the Wexford County Council website.
