The annual Teagasc Open Day will take place at Johnstown Castle in County Wexford on Wednesday, 10th June, under the theme ‘Farming for a Better Future 2026’.
Held at the Teagasc Environment, Soils and Land Use Research Centre, this year’s event will focus on “Innovating for Healthy Soils and Clean Water”, with a strong emphasis on improving soil health and protecting water quality at farm level.
The open day will showcase research and practical demonstrations across a range of farming systems, including dairy-beef, organic, spring and winter milk, and tillage farming.
Dr Karen Daly, Head of the Teagasc Environment, Soils and Land Use Research Department, said the event will highlight actions and technologies across areas such as emissions reduction, biodiversity, grassland management, and manure handling, with a focus on the co-benefits of sustainable practices.
Dr David Wall, Enterprise Leader at Teagasc Johnstown Castle, said farmers will receive updated information on sustainable fertiliser use, soil health management, and measures to improve water quality through better nutrient, farmyard, and land management practices.
The programme will also include research updates on greenhouse gas emissions, ammonia reduction, biodiversity enhancement, and new developments in soil amendments and biobased fertilisers.
Organisers are encouraging farmers and those working in the agricultural sector to attend and learn more about the latest innovations and supports available.
