Ulster bank to cut 110 jobs

Ulster Bank is to cut 110 jobs at its mortgage centres here. 80 of the positions will go from its branch in Sandyford in Dublin, while the rest will be lost from offices in Belfast. The bank says it is outsourcing the managing of its mortgage arrears to Scotland. Staff affected work in the Retail Problem Debt Management Unit, and are involved in mortgage arrears negotiation. The IBOA has written to its members in Ulster Bank, outlining potential scenarios that could lead to many hundreds more jobs being stripped. The IBOA's Larry Broderick says he is very concerned for the staff involved. "This is a very, very disappointing announcement for staff in recoveries" he said. "IBOA has called on the bank to review this decision in the light of the major review by RBS". "It highlights the concern, and rthe concern of members, that there is a plan afoot to massively restructure Ulster Bank with huge potential impact on staff and on customers" he added.
