The emergency department (ED) at Wexford General Hospital is currently extremely busy, with high patient numbers and all hospital beds in use.
The HSE advises that patients attending the ED for routine or non-urgent issues should expect longer waiting times.
People are encouraged to consider alternative healthcare services, including GPs, GP Out of Hours, or pharmacists, where appropriate. However, those who are very sick or in an emergency situation should still attend the ED, where the sickest patients are treated first.
Community pharmacists offer expert advice for minor illnesses and, through a new service, can supply prescription-only medications for certain common conditions. This Common Conditions Service covers issues such as allergic rhinitis, cold sores, conjunctivitis, impetigo, oral thrush, shingles, cystitis and vaginal thrush.
More information is available on the HSE website.
The HSE apologises for any inconvenience caused by delays and reassures the public that every effort is being made to manage patient flow and ensure timely care for those requiring admission.
