Retailers in Wexford and across Ireland are being urged to take the final step towards fully eliminating ten banned single-use plastic items from their shelves. A new national campaign launched by MyWaste, backed by key industry bodies such as Retail Ireland, CSNA and Retail Excellence Ireland aims to support businesses in completing their transition to sustainable practices.
From April 26th to May 10th, the campaign focuses on helping retailers identify and remove any remaining banned items using a free Self-Audit Checklist. This tool is designed to make compliance easy and straightforward for businesses still working to eliminate non-compliant stock.
Despite significant progress in the sector, with only 8% of businesses reporting banned items being offered by suppliers, there is still work to be done. MyWaste encourages all retailers to participate in the campaign to ensure full compliance, improve awareness of EU regulations and contribute to a cleaner, greener future. The campaign also highlights the increasing adoption of sustainable alternatives to plastic straws, cutlery and other items.
Retailers can access resources and download the checklist via MyWaste.ie.
