Nta Publishes Review Into Withdrawal Of Route 5 Through Co. Wexford

NTA PUBLISHES REVIEW INTO WITHDRAWAL OF ROUTE 5 THROUGH CO. WEXFORD

The National Transport Authority has published its review into the withdrawal of Bus Éireann’s Route 5 Expressway service from Waterford to Dublin via Wexford.

A number of groups across Wexford have expressed serious concerns about plans to axe the service.

In the Review, the National Transport Authority undertook a detailed analysis of the impact of the removal of Bus Éireann’s Expressway Route 5 service on the affected towns’ public transport links.

It determined that some of these links should be maintained to meet a social need.

The proposals include the reconfiguration and the addition of services on Route 132 to serve Tullow and Bunclody connecting to Dublin.

The NTA also proposes new rural transport services should be established to connect the towns of Clonroche, Bunclody and Tullow to Enniscorthy and New Ross for onward connections to Dublin, Wexford and Waterford.

The Next Steps, as determined by the Authority are for it to procure the new rural transport services and put in place the connecting rural transport services.

The NTA says Bus Éireann now needs to put the reconfigured 132 service in place and to commence the amended Expressway Route 4.

The National Transport Authority says these steps should be co-ordinated in advance of the withdrawal of the Expressway Route 5 service.
