PENSIONERS MAY BE ENTITLED TO UK FUEL ALLOWANCE

County Wexford’s pensioners are being reminded that they could be eligibile for the U.K winter fuel payment.

The deadline to apply is March 31st 2014.

Wexford TD and Minister of State Paul Kehoe is urging County Wexford people aged 62 and over who may have lived and worked in the UK and have returned to Ireland that they could still be eligible for the UK Winter Fuel Payment Allowance.

Even if they did not receive the payment while living there.

To be eligible for the payment the only requirement is that a claimant was born on or before July 5th 1951 and have a “genuine and sufficient link” with the UK.

Since 2002 the UK’s Department for Work and Pensions has paid out more than 8.2 million pounds or 9.5 million euro to Irish people who returned to Ireland after living and working all their lives in the UK.

The annual payment ranges between 1 and 3 hundred pounds depending on the applicants cirumstances.

The deadline for next year’s payment is March 31st 2014 and application forms are available from Deputy Paul Kehoe’s constituency office.
