REDUCTIONS RECORDED IN COUNTY WEXFORD CRIME RATES

Crime rates across County Wexford have dropped during the first quarter of 2014.

That’s despite a drop in Garda numbers over the last number of years from 302 to the current level of 254.

Speaking to the New Ross Standard Newspaper Chief Superindentent in Wexford John Roche says anti-crime operations and random checkpoints have played a major part in reducting the crime rate.

There were 299 burglaries – down 30 per cent – marking a fall of 99 cases across the division.

There’s been a 24 per cent drop in the number of theft cases from 221 to 168.

While Public order offences have fallen to 151 cases – down 29 per cent.

In relation to assault cases – they’re down 8 to 58 – a six per cent drop and criminal damage cases have remained the same as last year with 211 cases.
