SPORT: GAA COUNTIES FINED FOR MISSING DRUG TESTS RELEASED

Clare, Cork ,Galway, Limerick and Tipperary were among teams to have been fined for missing drugs tests last year.

The Donegal and Kildare footballers were also fined, the story is in today’s Irish Examiner and the information was obtained through the Freedom of information act.

Davy Fitzgerald says the tests were missed simply because Clare changed training venues late on and they have now taken steps to stay in touch with the Irish sports council who administer the tests.

The Irish Sports Council have noted that 89 players were tested last year, 44 were tested after games while 45 were tested during collective training all tests came back clear.

Anti doping director Dr Una May says she has no concerns about doping in GAA adding that when teams miss test it’s generally because of late changes of training venues due to poor weather or pitch conditions.
