SPORT: LEINSTER COUNCIL DEFEND WALSH CUP

The Leinster council have defended the stature of the Bord Na Mona Walsh cup.

Provincial Chairman John Horan says the competition is invaluable for teams as they prepare for the league and outlines that the revenue generated from the games is used to address issues of hardship suffered by players, and by ordinary members of the GAA in Leinster.

Eddie Brennan who oversaw Kilkenny in the competition this season has called for an end to the tournament.

Officials have denied failing to take action following reports that some players have been paid to lose.
