SPORT: LIVERPOOL NEEDED RECORD BREAKING PENALTY SHOOT OUT TO PROGRESS IN CAPITAL ONE CUP

Liverpool needed a record-breaking penalty shoot-out to reach round 4 of the Capital One Cup.

The Reds beat Middlesbrough 14-13 on spot kicks after the sides finished level at 2-2 after extra time at Anfield.

30 penalties were taken in all, with 20 of those scored without a miss.

Arsenal are out – they were beaten 2-1 by Southampton at the Emirates.

Everton crashed out 3-0 at Swansea, while last season’s runners-up Sunderland went down 2-1 to Stoke.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Bournemouth, Derby, Sheffield United, MK Dons, Shrewsbury and Fulham.
