TRADE UNION REPS FROM BAUSCH AND LOMB TO MEET POLITICIANS IN WATERFORD TODAY

Workers at Bausch and Lomb in Waterford say they need more time to consider massive job losses and pay cuts at the company.

The contact lenses manufacturer has given staff an ultimatum.

It’s seeking 200 voluntary redundancies and a 20 per cent wage cut for its remaining workers – or else it says the factory will close.

Workers have until June 17th to either accept or reject the proposals – but SIPTU, who represent 900 of the 1200 workforce, say that’s too little time.

Representatives from the union are meeting with politicians in Waterford today to get their backing.
