WALLACE ONE OF 8 WHO SAY SHATTER’S POSITION IS NO LONGER TENABLE

Wexford TD Mick Wallace says he believes neither the Justice Minister or Garda Commissioner is fit for office.

He’s one of eight Independent TDs who say Alan Shatter’s position as Justice Minister is no longer tenable.

Fianna Fáil says the Minister has known – for two years – about serious flaws in the Garda handling of individual murder, abuse and abduction cases, but failed to act.

Deputy Wallace has been briefed by Garda whistleblowers.

He has defended Confidential Recipient Oliver Connolly who was sacked yesterday and says recent revelations are not being aired for the first time.

“The Confidential Recipient was working for the Minister and the Garda Commissioner really – and he was only doing what he could” he said.

“But I quoted that on the 4th of December 2012; Ming Flanagan has brought some stories in there, Joan Collins did, Clare Daly did”.

“If you think this is not a nice case that you’ve just heard this morning, there are hundreds of these, unfortunately” he added.
