Water Charge Agreement Unlikely This Week

WATER CHARGE AGREEMENT UNLIKELY THIS WEEK

The Taoiseach and Tanaiste have signalled that a decision on water charges may not be reached this week.

Enda Kenny and Eamon Gilmore were speaking at the opening of a local enterprise office in Mullingar, County Westmeath this morning.

Despite repeated questions about if the public would be told about water charges after tomorrow’s Cabinet meeting, Mr Kenny would not be drawn.

“I know the media always like to have exact times – I think we have a responsibility as the Tanaiste said to get this right” he said.

“There are vulnerable sector out there – elderly people living on their own, people who have medical circumstances that might require much more than average usage of water, obviously houses where there are families – we’re very conscious of these things” he said.

“They’re the details that we’re working out, and as the Tanaiste says we hope to conclude the matter shortly” he added.
