Wexford Political Writer Predicting Fianna Fail/fine Gael Government

WEXFORD POLITICAL WRITER PREDICTING FIANNA FAIL/FINE GAEL GOVERNMENT

We could be on the cusp of an historic alliance between Fianna Fail and Fine Gael to form the next government.

That’s the view of Wexford political writer Noel Whelan.

He claims the current government will be about 12 to 16 seats short of an overall majority and would need the support of a number of small parties and independents.

Noel Whelan says in the interest of a stable government both Fine Gael and Fianna Fail will be talking to each other after the election when other options are exhausted:

“Myself, most of the pundits and all of the polls as they currently stand show that the current goverment of Fine Gael and Labour will fall something between a dozen and 16 seats short of a workable, bare, overall majority” he said.

“If that’s the situation, then it might take 4 or 5 weeks, it might be into…April but there’s every possibility that Fine Gael and Fianna Fail will find a way to go into some sort of government relationship together”

“…they will have the numbers for a comfortable majority when it comes to it but they have to get over their discomfort of being uncomfortable about the fact they’ll have to work together to make that happen.” he added.
