Demonstration Planned Over Jail Sentences For 5 Water Protesters

DEMONSTRATION PLANNED OVER JAIL SENTENCES FOR 5 WATER PROTESTERS

A protest is being held in Dublin tomorrow against the jailing of five protesters for obstructing water meter installation work in north Dublin

It is calling for an end to what it calls “political policing” and is being supported by a range of organisations involved in campaigning against the water charges and water meter installation.

John Douglas, Mandate general-secretary and spokesperson for Right2Water campaign, says people are entitled to demonstrate.

“Well the judge in his wisdom has said you can’t come within 20 metres – what people do after that is their own business, that’s a matter for them” he said.

“We’ve made it very, very clear what we said…that’s it’s a peaceful protest, it’s to be a peaceful demonstration and that we respect the right of all workers, including water meter installers, gardai and politicians to go to work” he added.
