DUBLIN HOSPITAL AND OBSTETRICIANS APOLOGISE OVER DEATH OF BABY BOY

A father has described the death of his two day old baby at a Dublin maternity hospital as avoidable.

The High Court heard Senan Dodd suffered catastrophic brain injury during birth at Mount Carmel Hospital in March 2008.

The hospital and two consultant obstetricians have apologised for a fault in the management of Roberta Dodd’s labour which led to the death of her son.

His father David Dodd thanked the medical staff at Holles Street Hospital where Senan was transferred after birth and those who helped bring the family justice.

“Roberta and I would like to thank the coroner, Dr. Brian Farrell, for the time he accorded to the case – and indeed Ms. Justice Irvine today” he said.

“As a result of that the errors were revealed, which – up to that point – had been denied”.

“Lastly we’d like to thank counsel who assisted throughout the process” he added.
